What an experience in the world of education and technology. Today I visited Skyline HS in Ann Arbor and it is amazing to see technology in the classroom at work. The class I visited did not use text books, the teacher has a blog site for the class with all the material, resources and information they may need. He puts activities and exercises online and the students also post podcasts. I think it is helpful in many ways because you get to see and they get to do things at their on pace even from home if they are sick. They can also interact with helpful modules.
The teacher also emphasizes literacy and has them "talking to their texts"by writing questions on copies they are reading and then highlighting . Following that he has them taking notes with the questions on the left and the answers on the left. This can help them prepare and anticipate test questions.
They also do final projects as the main form of assesements rather than exams. hey have quizzes but the projects are used to see how they can apply what they learned which also shows that they do understand.
It was a very inspiring day !!!!
